6. Funding Technology

1: Who will fund it? What are the solutions?

District funds?
Department funds?
Grant money?
Corporate donations?

A: Guidelines, restrictions, & expectations
Grants & Donations: With this current economic climate finding funding sources is becoming very difficult. Schools are cutting their budgets and businesses are less willing to give. So this makes it’s even harder to find an adequate source of funding for expansion and growth for computer projects. The NAS server project is used in businesses however many corporations I contacted did not have equipment they would be willing to donate. The next search for funding was to begin researching grants. We have been very successful in the past with grants and have received large amounts of equipment. However with a project that is very narrow in its scope it was hard to find a grant that we could meet its requirements. The school district has a grant writing specialist who I was in contact with and she also agreed that finding a grant would be unlikely.

District/Department Funds: After presenting the needs assessment an agreement was reached with the district technology administrator that the district technology fund would contribute half of the purchase price up to $4,000. This was a great solution. However the agreement meant that the Art/Tech Ed department would have to contribute the other half. The funding decision would have to be agreed upon with all of the department members. After presenting the project solution to the department members and the estimated cost of the project it was unaumsly agreed to progress.

2. Those responsible for applying, maintaining, communicating, and evaluating
The technology committee will be responsible for moving forward with the project with the support of the district staff. This means that Julie Watson, the department head, will be responsible to for transferring the funds needed to purchase the equipment. Matt Ricketts will complete and submit the purchase order for the required equipment. After the purchase order has been received by Dell a shipment conformation will be emailed to Matt Ricketts and then forwarded to Linda Simasek. After the equipment has been successfully received and inventoried payment may then be sent to Dell by the district business office. As the committee leader Matt Ricketts will oversee the ordering and payment process with the help of those specified.

With the NAS server installed and running it will become part of the district inventory and it will be assigned an asset number and bar code. The district asset number will help secure the equipment by tracking it and requiring regular yearly audits.
After the equipment is installed and running teachers and students will begin interact with it and become familiar with its potential. Users will be given the chance to take a digital survey four months after they begin to use it. The survey will determine the impact of the technology and its areas in need of growth.

B. Considerations for community partnerships and/or corporate sponsors
Community partnerships are very important and we have had many equipment donations in the past, however for this project donations were not feasible.
